A widely consumed food in India, Masoor Dal Mogar is also referred to as a red or even a pink lentil. It is skinless, cooks fast and has a delicious earthly flavour. Its high protein and low fat content makes it an alternative of meat and is therefore highly preferred by vegetarians. It is cultivated in India throughout the year. In North India, it is eaten with rice and roti. In South India, it is used to make sambar.
